Sriracha Barbecue Sauce

Sriracha Barbecue Sauce

Years ago I started an Easter lunch tradition with my Indy family, the Harrells. My main dish was always barbecued ribs and my favorite sauce was from Trader Joe’s called Sriracha Barbecue. I’ve continued this tradition over the years and it’s been one of my favorite traditions since moving to Indianapolis almost 15 years ago. Since I’ve started making my own salad dressings and sauces last year, I decided to make my own barbecue sauce. I’ve made it several times now and each time it’s been a hit with my family and friends. It tastes similar to the sriracha barbecue sauce from Trader Joe’s but it doesn’t taste exactly the same, just much better. I only use molasses and a small amount of maple syrup to sweetened it, but lots of flavor is added by the fresh spices that I use.

This sauce can be used for much more than barbecued ribs. I like to use it on my recipe for veggie filled meatloaf and barbecued chicken. This may sound odd, but I also like to dip my homemade roasted fries into this barbecue sauce. I’ve also lightly steamed cauliflower and slathered it in this thick barbecue sauce, such a delicious side dish!

Good quality sauces can be expensive and sometimes hard to find in grocery stores and that was my main motivation for making my own. Also I love to make everything and anything but if you don’t have the time to make your own see my notes for some good quality brand suggestions. Cheers to your Monday!

  • This barbecue sauce is pretty spicy, it's best to taste the sauce before adding the cayenne pepper.

Notes

  1. I used my own homemade habanero hot sauce but you can find it at most grocery stores. Always check the label for added sugars, sodium and preservatives, all are completely unnecessary for a delicious hot sauce.
  2. If you like to buy your barbecue sauces two of my favorite brands are Primal Kitchen and Tessemae. Both of these brands are not only organic, most of there sauces do not have any added sugar or preservatives. If you are on a Whole30, check labels because some of these sauces do have honey and/or maple syrup.
